Climate change in the arctic region is now the prime reason for weight loss in polar bears, according to recent studies done by scientists. They blame global warming for the dwindling ice cover on the Arctic Ocean that bears need for hunting seals each spring. Researchers studied and observed polar bears for 10 days by fastening nine female bears with tracking collars that had video cameras. This experiment was conducted in April, since they were most active during this period of time. Due to shrinking ice cover, the bears are having an incredibly hard time catching seal pups – leading to their losing weight and a rapid decline in their health.
